Paul said to the Ephesian church, “…just as [in His love] He chose us in Christ [actually selected us for Himself as His own] before the foundation of the world, so that we would be holy [that is, consecrated, set apart for Him, purpose-driven] and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined and lovingly planned for us to be adopted to Himself as [His own] children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the kind intention and good pleasure of His will…” (Ephesians 1:4-5, Amplified Reading Bible, emphasis added).

What an absolutely, mind-boggling concept! The omnipotent, almighty, all-loving God chose you and chose me. Before anything else, before creation, even, God chose us! Can you wrap your head around that? I can’t although my heart knows that it is true, or better said, TRUTH, all in capital letters. That God loved me KNOWING the bad choices I would make and still, deliberately chose me. Wow! Just, WOW!

As you contemplate the celebration of the birth of God coming down to be man take the time to also think about what it means to you personally to be a specifically, chosen member of His family. Can those around you see Whose family you belong to. Ask God to show you what He would like to add to, or change, or even delete in your life. Let a part of your birthday gift to Him be the gift of obedience in the task He has placed in your hands.

God Chose us

Words by J. Paul Williams

Before the foundation of the world was laid; before the planets and the stars were made,

Before God spoke and all creation obeyed, God chose us to be His children.

Before the Lord named the darkness night, before the galaxies adorned the height,

Before the Lord commanded, “Let there be light”, God chose us to be His children.

Re: God chose us. God chose us to be His children,

to be His family for all eternity.

God chose us. God chose us to be His children.

God chose us.

Before the lightning blazed a trail on high, before the thunder echoed its reply,

Before God placed the rainbow in the sky, God chose us to be His children.

Before all time, redemption was God’s plan. Before the law had made its first demand,

Before the Son of God became a man, God chose us to be His children
